The Story

The Story logo

The Story was published almost ten years ago but remains a popular format for churches reading through the Bible together. It collects selections of scripture in chronological order into 31 chapters, roughly the size of modern novels making it fit into both book clubs and Bible studies. Word to Worship now also includes The Story reading plan in our lectionary section making it easier to find worship songs related to each reading.

Less Spam (and a Privacy Policy Update)

Wall of Spam

I've just implemented the reCAPTCHA "I'm not a robot" test to registrations and posts. This should help prevent unwanted spam posts to the site and have only minimal overhead on the good human posters.

However, this does mean we'll all have to send a little more data to Google for them to tell us apart from the bots. Therefore, I've updated the privacy policy to mention this usage. Nothing too scary there, they look if you've used Google services lately and what type of device you're using etc., (and that only when you click on that checkbox). But thought you should know.

Liturgical Colors!

For over eight hundred years the church has used colors to mark and enhance the seasons and feasts of the church year. These liturgical colors—traditionally used for church vestments, though now just at home on projection screens—help set the tone and give context for each service. Word to Worship too now displays all the liturgical colors for services on all lectionaries. As always, refer to your church leadership for specifics for your church, as traditions vary. If you spot any errors, please let me know.

ACNA Lectionary Added

Word to Worship is proud to support the lectionary of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA). This adds to our goal of helping worship planners realize more meaningful worship with songs that reinforce the Scripture lessons. As the 2019 edition of The Book of Common Prayer says,

The public reading of Scripture in the liturgies of the Church is among the most important features of any act of worship.

I'm also excited about the small feature of having liturgical colors for each service displayed on the left. That's something we plan to add to the other lectionaries soon.
