Opening The Treasures More Lavishly

At the Second Vatican Council the bishops declared, "The treasures of the Bible are to be opened up more lavishly so that a richer fare may be provided for the faithful at the table of God's word." From that declaration came the Lectionary for Mass, a three-year cycle of readings for Sundays and major feasts. Word to Worship now supports that lectionary, including support for the deuterocanonical books (Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach, and Baruch) which previously would not have been recognized, and we welcome our many Roman Catholic friends who follow it.

It is a joy to open this site more lavishly to all those who worship our Risen Lord, Christ Jesus so we may honor him more fully. I echo the desire of that Council for all the faithful that "through Christ the Mediator, they should be drawn day by day into ever more perfect union with God and with each other, so that finally God may be all in all." Amen.

It is a great tool to have the Roman Catholic Lectionary tied in with this site. How can we also get a larger representation of contemporary Catholic Christian artists in the database -- not so that Catholic music ministers can have songs by Catholic artists, but so that Christian music ministers can have a broader library of music from fellow Christian artists. Songwriters like Matt Maher, Sarah Hart, Jesse Manibusan, Ken Canedo, Tom Booth, Josh Blakesley, Steve Angrisano, Chris Muglia, Ike Ndolo, Curtis Stephan, Sarah Kroger and others have a wonderful contemporary feel and beautiful Christian relevance which could be enjoyed by a broader Christian family. The best resource of contemporary Catholic songwriters that I know of is www.spiritandsong.com.
Peace,
James

Great question! We already have a couple dozen songs from Matt Maher, a handful from Taize, and a couple each from Sarah Hart and John Michael Talbot, though none from the others you mention. My hope is that the Word to Worship users can each add a few of the songs they think are needed which can grow the database much faster than I can on my own. I personally continue to add a few songs a week, though as a lifelong Lutheran I'm not as familiar with all the artists you listed. Or if you know of a source (database, Word doc, whatever) that includes song titles, lyrics and ideally CCLI numbers I could look at making a bulk way to add those songs. I'm open to any ideas.
